Review: Tumbling Down

Blisterhead returns with their brand new album, Tumbling Down. Their first album in nearly ten years, how does it hold up?

Fans of the Swedish Pop Punk band Blisterhead will be happy to know that those jolly Swedes are back and firing on all cylinders. Tumbling Down is a most delightful frantic piece of work that will surely please fans.

Listening to Tumbling Down it very quickly reminded me of my youth. The days when Ramones, Misfits, Offspring etc. were constantly in the stereo. Blaring that hyperactive near ’50s style rock n roll with no shame. Blisterhead play that same catchy rock n roll style whilst remaining at top speeds. Their use of the classic guitar riffs would even make Status Quo proud.

The never ending supply of pop hooks in the lyrics is quite refreshing. Lyrically the band press challenging thought provoking matters but do it with enough mind that you can easily enough forget the meaning of the lyrics and instead chant along with the fantastic choruses.

Tumbling Down is a (not so) staggering 35 minutes. It is by all accounts short and sweet. The band cook up enough great songs like, Degenerated and I Deny It, to forget that this album is so short. It hits the nail right on the head as far as album length goes. The music keeps at such an exciting pace that it will be over before you know it. Sure it might leave you craving for some more but why moan about it when you can listen to, The Revival and East Bay Punk, all over again.

This kind of pop punk is generally not my cup of tea but I will always appreciate a fun record when I hear it. Fans of this stuff will do good buying Blisterhead’s Tumbling Down. They have clearly put a lot of effort into their music and lyrics and it would be a shame if they did not get the recognition they deserve. So if you dig a good punk record with good lyrics and a little humour then hunt this sucker down and buy it. You will not complain.
